Terms of Use

These conditions govern use of Vance County Criminal History. Visiting a page, reading its material, or submitting a query through an available tool signals agreement to these terms. Anyone who does not agree should stop using the website.

NO FCRA USE. This privately operated website has no affiliation with a government body. Neither it nor its advertising partners provides a service intended for credit, employment, insurance, tenant, or any other Fair Credit Reporting Act purpose. The material routes readers to Vance County, North Carolina record sources. We are neither a private investigation firm nor a consumer reporting agency.

1. What This Website Is

This is a private reference site that operates independently from government. It does not hold official criminal records and cannot retrieve a file, perform an official check, or submit paperwork for a visitor.

Its purpose is to identify record custodians, including the Vance County Sheriff, the Clerk of Superior Court, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry, while also providing access to separately operated search tools.

2. Rules for Using This Site

Use is permitted only when these rules are followed. A visitor must not:

  • Use the website or its information in violation of federal, state, or local law
  • Harass, stalk, threaten, or intimidate another person
  • Use content for hiring, housing, lending, or insurance decisions
  • Attempt unauthorized access to any system or account
  • Operate scrapers, bots, or other automated collection tools against the pages
  • Interfere with performance or another visitor's access

3. No Harassment, Stalking, or Discrimination

No information found here or through a linked tool may be used to harass, stalk, intimidate, threaten, or unlawfully discriminate. North Carolina's Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry is published for community safety. Its acceptable-use notice warns that criminal misuse can be prosecuted. Registry data is not permission for vigilantism or any form of unlawful retaliation.

4. We Are Not a Consumer Reporting Agency

We are not a consumer reporting agency under the FCRA and do not create consumer reports, credit reports, or official background checks. The same limit applies to how visitors may use information from the website and its linked tools. It may not be used to:

  • Make an employment decision
  • Evaluate a renter or housing applicant
  • Assess credit or insurance eligibility
  • Determine access to a license, permit, or government benefit
  • Carry out any other activity regulated by the FCRA

A lawful regulated check must come from an authorized official process or a screening provider that complies with the FCRA.

5. No Legal Advice

Website content is general information, not legal advice. Only a licensed North Carolina attorney can advise how a Vance County charge, warrant, conviction, or expunction law applies to a particular set of facts.

6. No Warranties

All services and material are offered "as is." No warranty is made that:

  • Information will always be complete, accurate, or current
  • The website will operate without interruption
  • Every page will be free from errors or security defects
  • An outside search provider will return complete or correct results

Criminal records can change when charges are filed, amended, dismissed, restricted, or expunged. Gaps and delays are possible. Website content is not an official statement from the Vance County clerk, sheriff, SBI, or any other government office.

7. Third-Party Services and Links

Links may lead to sheriff, court, state-agency, legal-aid, and outside service websites. Those destinations are independently controlled. We are not responsible for their availability, accuracy, pricing, content, or treatment of submitted data. Review the destination's terms before use.

8. Intellectual Property

Text, graphics, logos, and code belong to Vance County Criminal History or the applicable content partner. They may not be copied, changed, distributed, or used to create derivative work without prior written permission.

9. Limits on Our Liability

A visitor agrees to hold us harmless from claims, demands, or proceedings caused by that visitor's use of the website or breach of these terms, including related legal fees and costs.

11. Governing Law

12. Changes to These Terms

We may revise these terms. A revision becomes effective when the updated terms are posted on this page.

13. Cutting Off Access

Access may be limited or ended at any time, for any reason, and without advance notice.

14. Severability

If one provision is held invalid or unenforceable, all remaining provisions continue in force. The affected language will be narrowed only as much as required for enforcement.
