Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is sent to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the request under its own systems and returns any result. We do not keep a separate site log of the terms typed into those boxes.
Messages and Contact Submissions
When someone emails us, the message may be retained long enough to respond and manage the exchange. It remains within the organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal duty.
Data We Gather Automatically
Normal server and analytics operations can collect technical details when a page loads:
- Page-view dates, times, and visit duration
- Device type, operating system, and browser version
- The referring website, when one is supplied
- Pages viewed during the visit
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files that help measure use, including popular pages and common exit points. Analytics providers may combine visits into traffic reports. A browser can block or remove cookies, although doing so may change how parts of the website function.
What We Do With This Data
- Operating, securing, and improving website performance
- Routing a submitted query to the provider that runs the search tool
- Diagnosing errors and other technical problems
- Measuring which pages are useful to visitors
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not maintain, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal histories. Vance County material identifies access routes to the sheriff, Clerk of Superior Court, North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. Visitor information is not assembled into a consumer report, and this website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes. Their own privacy terms apply to information submitted through a tool, including retention and disclosure practices. Review the provider's policy before entering a query because we do not control those practices.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to the sheriff, the Judicial Branch, SBI, other public offices, or outside tools. Once a visitor follows such a link, the destination's privacy policy controls. Review it before providing personal details.
Advertising companies may use their own technology to measure activity across websites and select ads. That processing occurs through their systems.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and performance
- Search providers that process a query submitted to their tool
- Advertising networks serving content on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices are used to protect collected data. No internet-connected system can be guaranteed secure, however, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access will never occur.
Users Under 18
The website is intended for adults, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. A report that a minor supplied such information will be reviewed so the data can be removed.
Your Data Rights
Applicable law may provide rights concerning personal data. North Carolina's Public Records Law, Chapter 132, governs access to government records, while G.S. 132-1.4 sets special rules for criminal investigative records. Those statutes do not turn this private website into a government records custodian. Visitors may still:
- Request deletion of personal data we control
- Ask what personal information we hold about them
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Object to certain processing where applicable
